Car terminal Op. System
Project AVTI – Car Terminal Operations Management System
The application software AVTI (meaning “cars”) is used for real-time recording of all vehicle movements in the Port of Koper. It enables capturing data on the field (4,000 vehicles arriving by ship and up to 400 vehicles by trainsets, daily shipment of up to 400 vehicles to hinterland). Field recording is supported by reading barcodes with VIN codes (vehicle identification number).
The need for a purpose development of this type of application arose mainly from requirements of clients who need to be constantly, regularly and promptly informed about the status of their vehicles on the basis of their electronic orders.
AVTI enables quick adjustments to changes on the market, since the inclusion of a new client and the adjustment to new or changed requirements after an electronic data interchange with individual each client is simple and settable by the user.
In this way the application successfully supports the changing requirements of the clients by daily electronic interchange of data on the status of vehicles, where each importer or exporter has its own standard and internal message structure (announcements of the arrival of vehicles, announcements of the shipment of vehicles, announcements of the necessary warehouse works). The purpose web query engine also enables its clients to directly view the current status of their vehicles stored at the Terminal of the Port of Koper.
Results
In twenty years of use the system developed from supporting annual traffic of 30,000 vehicles in 1997 to 750,000 vehicles in 2017. In 2011 was added support for PDI&PDS car service centre. The entire AVTI information system is managed by only two dispatchers in the office: one is in contact with field operators, and the other is in contact with service clients and vehicle owners exchanging electronic data (generating reports, receiving work orders, creating customized daily, weekly, monthly statistics, controlling performed services in the storage facilities, assessing damages, etc.).
